Twin fifties from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, followed by a valiant effort from our bowlers went in vain as we lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring IPL 2025 clash at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday.

Put in to bat, Marsh (65) and Markram (61) slammed half-centuries, while Nicholas Pooran played a quick-fire knock of 45 to guide us to 205/7 in our 20 overs.

Later, William ORourke, Digvesh Singh and Shardul Thakur picked up crucial wickets for us, however, it wasn't enough as the Sunrisers chased down the target in 18.2 overs to register a six-wicket win.

Marsh, Markram lit up Ekana

Mitchell Marsh got us off to a flying start as he slammed Pat Cummins for a boundary off the very first ball, and soon hammered him for a maximum in the opening over.

Marsh continued his attacking approach, before Aiden Markram joined the party as he hit Cummins for a boundary in the third over.

Marsh and Markram continued the onslaught as they hammered Harsh Dubey for 17 runs in the following over. Our consistent opening duo soon brought up the team’s fifty in just 4.1 overs.

Meanwhile, our opening pair played some scintillating shots as we raced to 69/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Marsh, Markram hit fifties

Markram and Marsh continued their outstanding partnership to put huge pressure on the SRH bowlers. Marsh then notched up his fifty off just 28 balls in the eighth over, his fifth half-century in the ongoing IPL.

Our swashbuckling opening duo soon brought up the team’s century in the ninth over to put us in a commanding position. However, our magnificent 115-run opening stand ended as Marsh fell for 65, laced with six fours and four maximums.

Later in the 12th over, we suffered another huge blow as captain Rishabh Pant departed. At the other end, Markram reached his half-century off 28 balls, his fifth fifty of the season.

Nicholas Pooran and Markram continued the momentum with a few boundaries.

Pooran guided us to 205

Makram’s impressive knock later came to an end in the 16th over as he departed for 61, which included four fours and four sixes.

In the final few overs, Pooran played a crucial knock of 45 off just 26 balls to guide us to 205/7.

Will struck early on debut

Defending 205, debutant William O’Rourke provided us with an early breakthrough as he dismissed Atharva Taide in the second over to bag his maiden IPL wicket.

Digvesh bagged crucial breakthroughs

After suffering an early setback, Abhishek Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan stitched a partnership for the Sunrisers to steady their innings.

In the eighth over, Digvesh Rathi provided us with a much-needed breakthrough as removed Abhishek to end an 82-run stand.

Digvesh continued his outstanding spell as he later bamboozled Ishan Kishan to reduce SRH to 140/3 in the 12th over.

Tough night at home

Despite best efforts from our bowlers, Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis forged a crucial 55-run stand for the visitors to guide them closer to victory.

Shardul later bagged the huge wicket of Klaasen in the 18th over, however, it was too late as the Sunrisers chased down the target wit six wickets in hand.
