West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph produced another sensational spell against Australia on the third day of the first Test at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Friday.

The 25-year-old, who represents Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), claimed his fourth-wicket haul in Test cricket in the third innings.

After registering figures of 4/46 in the first innings, Joseph continued his brilliant form as he picked up 5/87 to finish with nine wickets in the match.

While Joseph cleaned up Australia opening batter Sam Konstas on Day 2, the tearaway pacer bagged four scalps on Day 3.

After Australia resumed Day 3 on 92/4, Joseph trapped Travis Head (61) in front of the stumps to end a 102-run stand with Beau Webster.

The West Indies speedster soon bagged the massive wicket of Webster (63) to reduce Australia to 208/6 in their second innings.

Joseph later shattered Mitchell Starc’s stumps and then removed Josh Hazlewood to bag a five-wicket haul which eluded him in the first innings.

The hosts rode on Joseph’s fifer to bowl the Aussies out for 310 in 81.5 overs in their second innings.

Chasing 301 runs in the fourth innings, West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for 141 to suffer a 159-run defeat in Barbados.

Batting at No.10, Joseph top-scored for the Windies with 44 off just 22 balls, laced with four fours and four maximums.

For Australia, Hazlewood was the wrecker-in-chief with 5/43 to guide the visitors to a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.

Having finished with figures of 9/133, Joseph recorded his best match figures in Test cricket.

With another magnificent performance, Joseph now has claimed 22 wickets against Australia in three Test matches at an average of 16.27, including three five-wicket hauls. His other fifer came against South Africa in August 2024.
