Having recorded his 16th Test half-century, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper became the first Asian wicketkeeper-batter to score 2,000 runs in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries.
The 27-year-old flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter now has amassed 2,023 runs in SENA nations at an average of 41.28, including six centuries and six fifties.
During his quick-fire knock of 65, Pant also etched his name into the history books after he claimed the record for the most sixes hit by any batter in an away country in Test cricket.
Pant clobbered his 23rd six in England during the ongoing second Test to surpass Ben Stokes’ record of 21 maximums in South Africa. Legendary Sir Vivian Richards holds the next best by a visiting batter in England with 16 sixes.
Pant, who came to bat in the 30th over, stitched a 110-run partnership alongside captain Shubman Gill to help India stretch their lead past 400.
Earlier, India scored 587 in their first innings and later bowled out England for 407 to secure a massive 180-run lead.
Meanwhile, Pant has now accumulated 1,123 runs in 14 Tests against England at an average of 46.79, including five centuries and five fifties.
Since his Test debut against England at Nottingham in August 2018, India’s newly-appointed Test vice-captain Pant has scored 3,290 runs in 45 matches at an average of 44.46. The swashbuckling southpaw has slammed 16 fifties and eight hundreds in cricket’s longest format.
