The IPL 2024 league stage is approaching its end and the picture of who’ll get the ‘Q’  for the playoffs is getting clearer with each game.

Two league matches remain for a majority of teams, including us. While we are currently sixth on the points table with 12 points, our hunt for a place in the playoffs is very much on.

Here are the scenarios in which we can make our third consecutive appearance in the playoffs.

Scenario 1: Double delight

Our remaining two matches are against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on May 14 and May 17, respectively, and a lot is at stake.

If we win both of these matches, we move to 16 points. This will give us the best chance to make the playoffs and put Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans out of contention.

It will be then a fight between us, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and possibly Rajasthan Royals if they lose their remaining two matches.

If Chennai Super Kings fail to beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last match or Sunrisers Hyderabad lose both their matches, we go through to the playoffs.

Scenario 2: Split results

If we are to overtake the Capitals on the points table, a win becomes crucial for us. A loss against them will keep them above us as they will have 14 points.

Assuming we win against Mumbai Indians in our final league match on May 17 after losing the penultimate game, we will have 14 points and Delhi Capitals will also be on 14 provided they lose to RCB. However, DC hold the advantage of having a better net run rate than us at this stage.

If the Royal Challengers beat Super Kings and Capitals in their remaining games and Sunrisers Hyderabad lose both their games then we will be tied with CSK, RCB, DC and SRH on 14 points. Other teams do have an advantage over us as they have a better net run rate at this stage.

Scenario 3: Double whammy

If we lose both our matches, we will be out of contention for a place in the playoffs. But knowing our record, trust us to qualify for the playoffs for the third time in a row!
