In our two seasons of existence in the Indian Premier League, breaking and making IPL records with gazab andaz has become the hallmark of our vibrant Lucknow Super Giants team!

From posting 257-5, the second-highest total in IPL history, to the 210-run partnership by KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock for the record opening stand, a lot has been achieved by our boys in such a short time.

With the countdown for IPL 2024 already underway, let’s look at some of our team and individual records in the IPL.

Highest total

Sixteen editions of the IPL have gone by, or to put it in context, over a thousand IPL matches played. However, only two times have teams posted a score in excess of 250 runs.

On April 28, 2023, we smashed 257/5 against Punjab Kings for our highest total in the IPL. Marcus Stoinis top-scored with a 40-ball 72 while blinders from Kyle Mayers (54 in 24), Ayush Badoni (43 in 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 in 19) helped us post a humongous target on the board. We eventually won the match by 56 runs.

The record score of 263/5 in the IPL is held by RCB which came against Pune Warriors over a decade ago in 2013.

Top run-scorer

Our KLassy Kaptaan KL Rahul has always led from the front and the stats don’t lie. An impressive tally of 890 runs from 24 matches in LSG colours before the start of IPL 2024 makes him our highest run-getter too. His best of unbeaten 103 for LSG came against Mumbai Indians in 2022.
With two tons and six fifties, Rahul has also scored the most number of hundreds and half-centuries playing for LSG.

Biggest win by runs

Powered by a half-century by QDK at the top, we managed 176/7 against KKR on May 7, 2022. Though it was not a huge score, figures of 3/19 by Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan’s 1/6 and Dushmantha Chameera’s 1/14, from three overs each, folded KKR for 101 inside 15 overs as we registered a clinical 75-run victory.

Highest successful chase

Chasing RCB’s 212, we were reduced to 23/3 in four overs on April 10, 2023. However, Nicholas Pooran (62 off 19) and Marcus Stoinis (65 off 30) came to the party and scripted a royal heist. It was not only our highest run chase but also the highest at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the history of IPL!

Lowest total defended

Inspired spells from Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis helped Lucknow Super Giants engineer a brilliant comeback against Rajasthan Royals in an away game on April 19, 2023. Having set RR a modest target of 155, we seemed down for the count as the hosts seemed cruising at 87/0. Stoinis (2/28) and Avesh (3/25) pulled things back with the ball, guiding us to a 10-run victory.

Highest partnership

Riding on Quinton de Kock’s 140 and KL Rahul’s 68, we posted 210/0 in 20 overs against KKR on May 18, 2022. It is the highest partnership for any wicket for us and the highest opening stand in IPL history till date. It was also the first time in the IPL that a team batted first and went through 20 overs without losing a wicket.

Highest individual score

QDK’s 140 is also the highest individual score for LSG. His knock included 10 sixes, the most sixes hit in an innings by a batter for LSG.

Top wicket-taker

Ravi Bishnoi, who bowls leg spin like very few can, is our top wicket-taker with 29 scalps. His best of 3/28 came against Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 Eliminator.

Best bowling figures in a match

Mark Wood literally left his ‘mark’ on the Delhi Capitals on April 1, 2023. Wood sent the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Axar Patel and Chetan Sakariya packing to finish with figures of 5/14 in four overs. It remains the only 5-wicket haul by an LSG bowler in the IPL.
