The business end of the IPL 2024 is approaching and our team has received a major boost with speedster Mayank Yadav declared fit ahead of the clash against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday.

The match, to be played at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium, will be our penultimate home game of this season and the evening fixture will start at 7:30 PM IST.

Mayank suffered a side strain during the match against Gujarat Titans on April 7 and could get his first game since then.

Also at the forefront of our challenge against MI would be KL Rahul, who has been in fine form and is among the top run-scorers this season. He already has three half-centuries this year and the big century that is due might just come off against his favourite bowling attack in Mumbai Indians.

Three of KL Rahul’s four IPL centuries have come against MI. Even against the formidable Jasprit Bumrah, he averages 71.5.

Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran and Quinton de Kock have played several match-winning knocks and will look to fire in unison against a team fighting for survival in the IPL 2024. Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya have also been consistent with the ball.

While we are fifth on the table with five wins and four losses, MI are ninth with three wins and six defeats.

News from MI camp

MI have been struggling for form this season but there’s plenty of talent in the batting line-up led by Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are also among those who can single-handedly run away with the contest with their explosive batting.

While Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the leading wicket-takers this season, he has not found consistent support from the other end.

LSG vs MI head-to-head

Our 81-run loss in the IPL 2023 eliminator last year is the only time we have come up short against Mumbai Indians. Otherwise, the rest three encounters have gone our way.

KL Rahul’s unbeaten 103 helped us post 199/4 in the first-ever head-to-head meeting and win the contest by 18 runs in 2022. A few days later, another unbeaten 103 from him saw us post 168/6 on a slow Wankhede track and pocket the match by 36 runs.

KL Rahul was injured for our IPL 2023 league-stage match against the MI but Marcus Stoinis powered us to 177/3 with 89 not out and we eventually won the contest by five runs.
