After being on the receiving end of our mehman nawazi, Chennai Super Kings would be keen to serve up revenge when we step into their fortress at the Chepauk Stadium on Tuesday. The evening fixture begins at 7:30 PM IST.

We ended the first half of the IPL 2024 league stage on a high with a clinical eight-wicket win over the reigning champions at our home. By doing so, we find ourselves in the mid-table mix with Super Kings and Titans, all tied on eight points but separated by net run rate.

While we are fifth with a net run rate of 0.123, CSK are fourth with 0.529. A win would see us enter the top four once again.

Our batting dazzled against the Super Kings on Friday with KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock recording their first century stand of IPL 2024. The kind of form they displayed, trust them to produce a similar performance at Chepauk.

KL Rahul, our top scorer this season with 286 runs, is also in the top 10 of the Orange Cap leaderboard. He has scored two half-centuries in the IPL 2024 and another 51 on Tuesday would see him become the fourth batter to score 4000+ runs as an opener in the IPL.

Additionally, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis and flamboyant Nicholas Pooran have stepped up whenever the stakes have been high and expect nothing less from the boys on Tuesday.

In bowling, the anticipation is building up around Mayank Yadav's return but Naveen-ul-Haq, Mohsin Khan, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi and Yash Thakur have been brilliant in keeping the opposition under the shackles. Yash, with eight wickets from six matches, is also our top wicket-taker this season.

News from CSK camp

We struck first against the Chennai Super Kings on our home ground last week but a new set of challenges await us for the second round on Tuesday.

The Super Kings have had a perfect record at home in IPL 2024, winning all three matches, and will turn up with all their might to defend their fortress for the fourth time.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube have been in top form and their wickets will be crucial if we are to head back home with two points. MS Dhoni has been consistent in providing CSK strong finishes and is yet to be dismissed this season.

Ravindra Jadeja scored a fifty in the previous match but will be more of a threat as a bowler on spin-friendly Chepauk wicket. Young Matheesha Pathirana, veteran Mustafizur Rahman, Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande will be expected to lead the bowling line-up for the home team.

CSK vs LSG head-to-head

Courtesy of our eight-wicket win in the previous game, we are 2-1 ahead as far as the head-to-head record is concerned. We won our first meeting against the Super Kings in IPL 2022 by six wickets. However, we lost to them by 12 runs at Chepauk last season before the reverse fixture at the Ekana was washed out.

Stats that matter

  • Mohsin Khan will be playing his 50th T20 match.
  • Nicholas Pooran is 1 six away from 100 sixes in India in T20s.
  • KL Rahul is 51 runs away from 4500 runs in IPL.
  • KL Rahul needs 51 runs to complete 4000+ runs as an opener in IPL.
